FAIR | Hong Kong 2018

We are pleased to present our list of items to be exhibited at CHINA IN PRINT : HONG KONG RARE BOOK, PHOTOGRAPH & MAP FAIR, to be held at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, Friday 30 November – Sunday 2 December, 2018.

Among numerous highlights are an exceedingly rare Latin-Nankinese dictionary and its two supplementary volumes compiled and printed by Jesuit missionary Benjamin Brueyre at Wamdam near Shanghai (1846-47); the elusive first edition of Morrison’s Commercial Guide (1834); the first edition of Richard Eden’s Decades of the Newe Worlde (1555), which contains the first use of the word China in English; the third Spanish edition of Marco Polo’s Travels (1529); one of only three manuscript copies of Prémare’s Notitia Linguae sinicae made prior to its first publication in 1831; and numerous scarce 19th century Shanghai, Canton and Macau imprints.
