Constantinople, Hasan Ağanın [circa 1890]. Octavo, printed mauve papered boards with image of a globe (edges chipped), cloth spine, salmon endpaper (gutters split, early Armenian owner’s inscription dated 1892), unpaginated, 14 double page lithographed maps with hand colouring, a very good.
The maps are of : the world (in two hemispheres); Europe (three maps, one of linguistic groups); Asia; Africa; North America; South America; Australia and the Pacific (with inset maps of Southeast Asia and Antarctica); the Balkans; the Ottoman Empire; the Arabian Peninsula and the Middle East; Egypt and East Africa (with inset map of the mouth of the Nile); West Afric and the Maghreb.
A very rare Ottoman atlas of the world published in Constantinople by the Persian publisher Hasan Ağanın, including a map of Australia and Antarctica.
This atlas and other works by the publisher appears not to be held in Western libraries.
