A Meiji-era Japanese world map in the form of a folding fan.

  • Sold

[Tokyo?] : circa 1870. Printed map of the world in two hemispheres, surrounded with flags of countries of the world and views of ports and people of the world, in the form of a folding fan, 25 x 46 cm (when opened); a few small holes and old tape repairs, overall a very good example.

A rare and fragile survivor from the Meiji era, the period when Japan was opening up to the west.
