Born in Port Moresby, Ivan Champion (1904-1989) spent most of his career as an Australian public servant in Papua. In 1927-28 he took part in a successful Australian expedition to cross New Guinea by traversing the Central Range. This very attractive little publication is an edition for young readers of Champion’s memoir of the expedition, Across New Guinea from the Fly to the Sepik (1932).
