Berlin : [George Jacques Decker], . 24mo (binding size 100 x 65 mm), original hand-coloured card covers with early manuscript title to spine, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, engraved double frontispiece portraits of Princess Friederike and Prince Friedrich of Prussia, engraved title, unpaginated (200+ pages), with numerous engraved plates by Daniel Berger after the artist Daniel Chodowiecki; several pages with original owner’s manuscript entries in German and French; a very good copy in an attractive original binding.
This Berlin almanac, which includes a comprehensive register of the most significant members of all the major noble houses of Europe, appeared under various titles from 1769 to 1813. Much of its success was due to its association with the great eighteenth-century German book illustrator Daniel Chodowiecki, who worked for the Almanac Généalogique from 1770 until his death.
