Photographer unknown.

Amateur photograph of Wild Dog Creek, near Murray Town in the Mid North of South Australia, sent as a postcard from nearby Arwakurra to North Adelaide in January 1908.

Sepia-tone gelatin silver print photograph printed on postcard stock, 138 x 88 mm; recto captioned in ink: ‘Wild Dog Creek / “Haunt of waterfowl”‘; verso with handwritten message dated at Arwakurra, 11 January 1908, signed by Janie D. White and addressed to her grandma Mrs H. White in Tynte Street, North Adelaide; presumably, Janie is the teenage girl standing on the creekbank in the image; postage stamp removed, otherwise very well preserved.

A charming vernacular South Australian image with a specific location and date – taking it beyond the merely generic.
