Muriel Dorney, a Brisbane school teacher, and hew newly wed husband John Dorney, a car dealer, drove over 6,000 miles around Australian in late 1926 – 27 in their Overland Whippet, the first model to arrive in Queensland. Their adventures were reported in the press at the time and collated into an illustrated book by Mrs. Dorney in 1928. Their tour around the continent visits many small towns and stations and encompasses encounters with indigenous tribes, including witnessing a corroboree.
An adventurous honeymoon is considered the first full length book on Australian motoring written by a woman.
