[ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION] Scott’s “Discovery” Expedition (1901-04) and “Terra Nova” Expedition (1910-13), and the Shackleton-Rowett “Quest” Expedition (1921-22): a near-complete set of magic lantern slides.

Group of 38 (of 42) photographic glass magic lantern slides, in uniform 82 x 82 mm format (mount size); the outer black paper borders all neatly titled in ms. in white ink: ‘Antarctic Expeditions’, along with a sequence number in the range 1-42 (lacking nos. 22/36/37/41); the inner black paper borders all with descriptive captions in ms. in white ink and the sequence number repeated, preceded by the abbreviation ‘AVL’; printed label of the slide maker ‘Newton & Co., 43 Museum Street, London, W.C.1’ partially visible under the glass at upper left corners; all of the slides are in excellent condition, with no chips, scratches or other marks.

A very scarce near-complete set of Newton & Co. lantern slides published between 1922 and 1925 under the title Antarctic expeditions as conducted by the late Capt. R. F. Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton (cf. Lucerna Magic Lantern Web Resource, University of Exeter, item 3012179).
