Two volumes, large octavo, publisher’s blue cloth covered boards with gilt stamped lettering to upper boards and spines, top edges gilt, bookplates to pastedowns, frontispiece in each volume, six photogravures and 18 coloured plates with tissue guards intact, 260 full-page and smaller black and white illustrations from Herbert Ponting’s photographs, maps, diagrams, and a panorama, pp xxvi, 636; xvi, 534, edges foxed, sparse foxing to preliminaries, a fine set of this important set. Scott’s journals were discovered in the expedition tent in 1912, and first appeared in published form in the same year.
