Large folio (530 x 380 mm), original cloth backed printed papered boards (lightly marked), [3] prelimary leaves, followed by 27 full page colour maps, each accompanied by descriptive text on facing page; thumb index; all maps are clean and in excellent condition, title page with light foxing, some edge loss to brittle front free-endpaper; a near fine example.
This scarce atlas contains maps showing the locations of the Catholic missions belonging to the Société des Missions Étrangères in Asia. It covers India, Burma, Siam, Malacca, Cambodia, Cochinchina (southern Vietnam), Tonking (northern Vietnam), China, Tibet, Manchuria, Korea, and Japan. The accompanying descriptions provide for each map a historical and geographical context as well as summaries of Christian missionary presence in the region.
