This photograph of Taree’s Art Deco-style Boomerang Theatre was taken by local photographer C. H. Soden and can be dated to around the end of 1929: on the wall is a poster for the film The Case of Lena Smith, which was screened at the Boomerang at that time.

‘The Taree Theatre was built and opened in the 1921. It later was re-named Boomerang Theatre and was a segregated theatre with Aboriginal persons having to sit in the front rows of seats in the stalls, and enter (after the house-lights had dimmed) from a side entrance. By 1956 it had been renamed Savoy Theatre and was de-segregated in the early-1970s and was closed in 1972.’ Ken Roe, https://cinematreasures.org/theaters/55984
