[AUSTRALIAN CINEMA] Come … do it with Alvin.

  • Sold

Sydney : Hoyts Theatres and Roadshow Distributors, [1972]. Special invitation to a preview screening at Hoyts Cinema, Sydney, of the film Alvin Purple, on 14 December 1972 (the film was not officially released until 20 December). Single folded sheet (folding to 215 x 112 mm), printed in three shades of purple, the centre pages with event and cast information; a very light bend at bottom edge, and some mild age-toning, else fine condition.

Director Tim Burstall’s sex farce Alvin Purple, starring Graeme Blundell, Penne Hackforth-Jones, Jacki Weaver, Noel Ferrier, and Abigail, and with a score by Brian Cadd, remains one of the most infamous films in the history of Australian cinema. Despite (or perhaps, because of) its blue content, Alvin Purple defied the critics’ negative reviews and broke box office records, becoming the most commercially successful Australian film up to that time.
