Australian Pelican.

London’; verso with original printed paper label: ‘Australian Pelican’; a tiny surface scratch below the eye of the pelican in the right-hand print, otherwise in fine condition.

During the 1870s Frederick York published his series of stereoscopic photographs of animals in the London Zoo in several iterations, the earliest set appearing in 1872. This portrait of the Australian Pelican seems to be unrecorded in Australian collections.
