Amsterdam : A. B. Saakes, 1794. ‘1ste tot 18de aflevering’ [1st to 18th instalments] – title page. Pedagogical publication on natural history and ethnology, originally published in instalments. The majority of the book deals with zoology: mammals, birds, fish, insects, reptiles, amphibians, coral, etc., from all over the world. A kangaroo (after Sydney Parkinson) is depicted in a section on quadrupeds. There are also sections on botany and mineralogy, as well as the ethnology of Africa, America, Asia and Oceania. Among the illustrations in the latter are four of South Seas inhabitants, including New Zealand Maori and Australian Aborigines (after Sydney Parkinson’s Two of the natives of New Holland advancing into combat).
