Octavo, contemporary binding of painted vellum, gilt ornamentation, upper panel with central image of a statue of the Madonna and Child and legend ‘Monastery Ettalensis Fundatrix’ (Ettal Abbey, or Kloster Ettal, is a Benedictine monastery situated near Oberammergau in Bavaria, founded in 1330; the statue of the Madonna and Child is said to have been given to the monastery by Ottone IV of Bavaria, 182-1347); lower panel with crest of Bernhard Oberhauser and legend ‘Bernardus Abbas Ettalensis’ (Oberhauser, Bernhard, 1694-1739, was a Benedictine professor of philosophy at the University of Strasbourg between 1723 al 1725; he was later Abbot of Ettal from 1736 to 1739); all edges gilt, patterned endpapers, silk ties, lacking title page (apparently not bound in), pp. [xiv]; 916; (34), light toning, else fine.
