[Chicago] : Svenska Missions-Förbundet till förman för dess mission in Kina [printed by W. Williamson], [1895]. Octavo, publisher’s blocked blue cloth boards lettered in gilt, front pastedown with original owner’s label ‘John F. Dahlgren, Slaughter, N. Dak.’, 184 pp, illustrated; text in Swedish; a fine copy.

The Covenant Church was founded by Swedish immigrants in Chicago in 1885, and was initially known as the Swedish Evangelical Mission Covenant of America. The Church’s first overseas mission was to China, where, from 1890, it worked alongside the Swedish Missionary Society and other Swedish Lutheran groups. The author of the present work, Peter Matson, together with his wife Christine Swensson Matson, led the first mission, and this work is a survey of its activities in the Hubei region, deep in central China.
