Small folio, polished calf, ruled in blind, expertly rebacked with new spine and headbands, endpapers replaced, engraved title page with minor paper restoration to margin, dedication leaf to Lady Katharine, Countess of Chesterfield, pp. [32]; 815; [blank]; [12 – index], the pages with black edge rule, internally clean, a very good copy.

The second posthumous edition of the lectures of Hildersam, puritan divine.

‘These 152 lectures were preached in Ashby between 28 September 1625 and 27 December 1631, and were in fact an unfinished series due to Hildersham’s final illness and death. The series was also interrupted for seventeen months by his last suspension, between 23 March 1630 and 2 August 1631.101 The first nine sermons were delivered as Fast sermons on Wednesdays during 1625, whereas the remaining 143 were preached on the normal lecture day of Tuesday.’
