Colonial certificate or writing blank with a lithographed scene of Australian Aborigines and fauna.
[Australia] : [s.n.], [c.1860]. Lithograph printing, 218 x 262 mm, in blue ink, the beautifully illustrated border depicting an Australian Aboriginal hunting scene with kangaroos, emu, possum, a lyrebird, kookaburras, black swans, and cockatoos; chipped edges and corners, but the illustrated section is unscathed.
This uncommon item of decorative stationery was probably intended for use either as a prize certificate or writing blank, on which the schoolchild would compose a formal example of their penmanship. The illustration is unattributed but the work is typical of colonial commercial lithography of the period.
