The Colonial literary journal was a short-lived periodical published weekly in Sydney between June, 1844 (vol. 1, no. 1) and March, 1845 (vol. 2, no. 40). This issue includes articles with subjects as diverse as civil liberty, bookbinding, Alexander the Great, ghosts, metallurgy and mathematics, as well as humorous anecdotes, moral maxims, original verse, letters to the editor and classifieds.

Complete runs of of volumes 1 and 2 are held in four Australian collections (National Library of Australia; State Library of New South Wales; State Library of Queensland; Australian Defence Force Academy Library). The State Library of Victoria holds a complete run of volume 1.
