The book is divided into four sections, devoted to Cook’s predecessors in the Pacific and each of his three voyages, respectively. The illustrations include twentieth century photographs of landscapes, peoples and material culture encountered by Cook.
The only copies recorded in Australian collections are of the first edition (1940), held by the National Library of Australia and the State Library of New South Wales.
