# 43247
[Unknown British photographer].
A pair of daguerreotype portraits of mature sisters, taken in the same studio, early 1850s.
$450.00 AUD
Two ninth-plate daguerreotypes with applied colour, each 55 x 44 mm (sight), housed identically in elliptical brass mats within leather cases with the same floral-patterned red velvet lining on the interior; the exterior of one case has embossed floral decoration and the other is plain (a little sun-faded on one side); both cases have working brass clasps; one of the plates has some tiny mould spiders but otherwise both daguerreotypes are in very good condition.
These lovely daguerreotypes were sourced together and there would seem to be little doubt that the two young women are sisters. They are seated in virtually the same pose, in the same chair. The studio artist gave one a red bow and the other a blue bow, probably to distinguish them a little.
