Dancing up country: the art of Dorothy Napangardi presented a selection of paintings focusing on Dorothy Napangardi’s career from 1991 to 2002. These paintings were based around the Women’s Dreaming, sometimes known as Digging Sticks Dreaming, passed down to Napangardi through her paternal line. It followed the long journeys of female ancestors walking and dancing with their digging sticks from Mina Mina in the Northern Territory.

The late Dorothy Napangardi was born in the early 1950s and belonged to the Warlpiri language group from the area around Mina Mina, a significant site located near Lake Mackay in the Tanami Desert in the Northern Territory. Napangardi first began painting in 1987 after moving to Alice Springs. For the first decade of her practice the subject of her works was bush food which she painted with delicate brushstrokes and vibrant colours.’ – MCA website https://www.mca.com.au/artists-works/exhibitions/dancing-up-country-the-work-of-dorothy-napangardi/
