Scarce Amsterdam edition of a significant anti-Unitarian text by English clergyman William Owtram (1626-1679), Archdeacon of Leicester. First published in London in 1677, Owtram’s best known work contains a detailed study of religious ritual sacrifice. The first part examines Jewish rituals and sacrifices, and the second the Christian concept of sacrifice. It also provides a defence of the doctrine of atonement against the Socinians – a group who rejected the doctrine of the Trinity in favour of Unitarianism.
