Indoors or out, a kind of treasure hunt! For young & old. Collingwood, Vic. : G. N. Raymond Pty. Ltd., by arrangement with Universal Publications Ltd., London, [1941]. Publisher’s box with pictorial lid, 180 x 120 x 35 mm, containing 12 destination cards each printed with the detachable names of 32 Australian towns including Bunbury, Denmark, Albany, Mascot, Gisborne, Terang, Kerang, Dalby, Darwin, Broken Hill, Armidale, Armadale, Winchelsea, Ascot, Toowoomba, and many others (when detached, these 384 town names represent letters that must be delivered); 8 folding cardboard ‘post-boxes’ (each with four town names displayed on the side), and a rules sheet; the game is complete and in fine condition, apparently unplayed.
This scarce Australian children’s game was produced in Melbourne by G. N. Raymond. It was advertised in Australian newspapers from May 1941 right up until August 1951. The miniature post-boxes are to be hidden around the house; one player assumes the role of despatch clerk, and the other players act as postmen. The winner is the first postman to deliver all of their “letters” successfully (i.e. to the correct post-boxes).
No example traced in Australian institutional collections.
