A novel and fascinating game with plenty of excitement by land and sea. New York : McLoughlin Brothers, [c.1890]. Chromolithograph game board, 415 x 400 mm, in two sheets, folding, with vignettes of Nellie Bly, Jules Verne, a steam ship and a steam train; in fine condition, housed in a modern box in period style with the original chromolithograph illustration to lid, also containing four spinner cards and wooden counters housed in modern calico bags.

In 1888 American journalist Nellie Bly (Elizabeth Jane Cochran) circumnavigated the globe, setting a new world record for the feat. Although her record stood for only a few months, her achievement had brought her fame, and the largest manufacturer of games at this time, McLoughlin Brothers of New York, made a board game to commemorate her remarkable travels. It was a popular game issued in several editions.
