Many Australian women played a significant role in the suffragist movement, perhaps none more so than Portland-born and Melbourne-educated Vida Goldstein (1869-1949), who, along with fellow Australians Mrs Margaret Fisher (wife of the Prime Minister, Andrew Fisher) and Mrs Emily McGowen (wife of the Premier of New South Wales), attended the Suffragette demonstration in London in 1911.
