Two volumes in one, thick octavo; contemporary calf, boards ruled in gilt, spine lettered and ruled in gilt; front pastedown with a nineteenth-century ex libris; common title-leaf with early annotation, separate title-leaf for the first work (Histoire de ce qui s’est passé a la Chine), pp. [ii], [2 blank], 384; separate title-leaf for the second work (Histoire de ce qui s’est passé au Japon), pp. [ii], 380; woodcut head- and tailpieces, decorated initials; very occasional browning, some pale water-staining at the margins of the first two leaves of the second work, otherwise clean throughout, a fine copy.

Two separate works, the first on China and the second on Japan, bound together under a common title. Each contains numerous letters from the Jesuit Missionaries in those countries, including Nicolas Trigault in China and Jerome de Angelis in Japan, addressed to Mutio Vitelleschi (1563-1645), Superior General of the Society of Jesus. The letters were translated into French by Pierre Morin. The publisher, Sébastien Cramoisy, is associated with numerous Jesuit printings.
