McCRAE, Hugh (1876-1958); LINDSAY, Norman (1879-1969)
[Sydney] : N.L. Press, . Large quarto (418 x 355 mm), bound in white calf over white papered boards with Norman Lindsay decoration in gold and red (a few marks, corners bumped), 35 pp, with Lindsay decorations in black highlighted with gilt, lacking the five original Norman Lindsay etchings, titled tissue guards tipped-in, Limited to 133 copies of which 100 were for sale to the public, signed by Hugh McCrae (this copy is number 116); additionally signed by Hugh McCrae on the half-title.
Published two years after Hugh McCrae’s Colombine, and originally containing five original etchings by Norman Lindsay, ‘Idyllia is a particularly fine example of small press publishing. One of the most dignified editions de luxe ever published in Australia….’ (Bloomfield, p. 59).
Sadly this copy has had its etchings removed by a previous custodian, but the fine Lindsay illustrated title page and gilt-highlighted initials enhance McCrae’s lyrical poems.
