First edition of Wagenseil’s Tela Ignea Satanae (=Flaming Arrows of Satan), an anthology of Jewish polemical writings against Christianity with critique and refutation by the German-Christian translator.

The Hebraist Johann Christoph Wagenseil (1633-1705) was born in Nuremberg. Over many years he collected and researched anti-Christian writings by Jewish authors; the present work contains his refutation of these various attacks on the Christian faith. Wagenseil’s ulterior motive in attempting to expose the perceived falsehoods inherent in Jewish arguments was to see the Jews persuaded into conversion – not to have them punished or treated unjustly.
