Circa 1868. [Title from contemporary caption in ink on mount]. Albumen print photograph, 120 x 160 mm, laid down on a section cut from an album page; a strong print in fine condition.

From an album of Sydney views compiled during Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh’s Australian visit of 1867-68, which included a number of shots of the temporary welcome arches that were constructed around Sydney in the Prince’s honour.

Lyons Terrace, built in 1841, stood on Liverpool Street opposite the southern side of Hyde Park between College Street and Elizabeth Street. It was demolished between 1910 and 1923.

The photographer is unidentified. The State Library of New South Wales holds another copy of this photograph, but its catalogue entry gives an incorrect approximate date range of 1875-85.
