Engraved map of Australia with hand colouring (insets: Van Diemens Land; World), linen backed, measuring 560 x 820 mm, folded to octavo (pale foxing), linen edged, paste-down single sheet advertisement for Wyld’s New Maps to verso of one panel. A very good, original copy of a pre-Gold Rush map.
The map marks Sturt’s and Mitchell’s exploration of the Darling and Murray; the northernmost named location in South Australia is Mt Hopeless (named by Eyre in 1840); neither Ballarat nor Castleton (Sandhurst / Bendigo) is marked.
