[TABUTEAU, Basil Manly, 1898-1982]
[MELBOURNE] Farewell menu for Basil Manly Tabuteau, of the Brighton District Football Club.
[Melbourne : s.n.], 1926. Lithographed card, 375 x 210 mm, printed recto only, with vignette illustrations including a view of Tabuteau’s house, “Warrain”, in Sandown Street, Middle Brighton; pale foxing and staining, a few edge tears.
Basil Manly Tabuteau (1898-1982) was the only child of Joseph August Tabuteau and Louisa Tabuteau. He married Thelma Soutter and the couple had two children, Diane Louise Tabuteau and Peter Tabuteau. Basil died in Melbourne in 1982.
This humorous menu was produced for a function at Basil’s Brighton home, “Warrain”, which took place on 24 April 1926, apparently to celebrate his imminent departure from Brighton (or perhaps the end of his bachelorhood). The invitees – all members of the Brighton D.F.C. (District Football Club) – are named in alphabetical order down the left hand side of the menu.
A charming piece of Brighton social history.
