Pirie & Sons 1880’, written on first side only, headed ‘Italian Consulate, Melbourne, 8th July 1881’, signed at the foot ‘Yours truly, A. de Goyzueta, Consular Commissioner General for Italy’, and addressed to ‘W. J. Daly Esqre., Commissioner for New Caledonia, M. I. E. [i.e. Melbourne International Exhibition], Melbourne’; the letter acknowledges receipt of Daly’s letter advising that a gift has been made from the Colony of New Caledonia to the Italian government of a collection of recently discovered mineral specimens, which de Goyzueta assures Daly ‘will be glady and gratefully received in Italy’; old folds, clean and legible.
