The following article appeared in Table Talk (Melbourne), 23 September 1909:

The Glen Tea Gardens, on the banks of the Yarra, at Hawthorn, which were opened on Sept. 4 by Mrs. E. Kegele, are in a most picturesque spot at the bottom of Callantina road and near Heyington station, and will no doubt be largely availed of in the summer months by the many boating parties who frequent the river in motor boats, steam launches and pleasure boats. The gardens are on the same site as the old Glen Tea Gardens, which were destroyed by the floods about, sixteen years ago and never rebuilt. Mr. and Mrs. Kegele have spared no effort to make the grounds as comfortable and accommodating as possible, and anyone visiting them can be sure of having their wants attended to. Special provision has been made for boating or drag parties, and grounds have been set apart for the holding of sports. Refreshments of ail kinds can be obtained at any time. Each year the Yarra and its vicinity is becoming more popular.
