An important treatise on the causes of, and preventive measures for, maritime sicknesses. Keraudren was a French naval officer, surgeon and Inspecteur général du service de santé de la marine between 1813 and 1845. The first edition of this work was published in 1817. Specific references are made by Keraudren to observations made by numerous navigators, including Cook (p.12 / p.30: his use of fire to purify the air below decks; p.16: his placement of a kitchen in steerage, to maintain dryness), and Labillardière (p.102; the possible benefits of chewing betel for intestinal health).

Not in Beddie; no copy of either the first or second edition is recorded in Australian collections.
