Autograph note in ink on sheet of notepaper, 180 x 120 mm, with embossed letterhead of the Menzies Hotel, Melbourne: ‘My kind greetings, Ada Crossley, Xmas 1903’; laid down on section cut from an album page; some minor staining, not affecting the inscription.

The Australian contralto Ada Crossley (1871-1929) came from humble beginnings in Gippsland, but went on to achieve critical and popular acclaim on the stages of Europe and America. In September 1903 she arrived back in Sydney – with the young Percy Grainger among her entourage – for the start of an Australasian tour under the management of J. C. Williamson.
