Original box, 210 x 100 x 25 mm, of thick card covered in maroon leather with gilt-stamped titles in German and English to lid (rubbed, a little worn at corners and edges), underside of hinged lid with pasted-down colour world map showing the ‘Route taken by Mr. Gustav Boehm’; containing three compartments with ribbon levers, housing 90 (of 117) numbered and categorised miniature gelatin silver photographs printed on thin card (83 x 60 mm) of views and ethnic types taken in Constantinople, Cairo, and Colombo (21 of 28 cards); Madras, Agra, Delhi, Benares, Calcutta, Darjeeling, Rangoon, and Penang (40 of 50 cards); and Singapore, Java, Macassar, and Bangkok (29 of 39 cards), each card with printed company name, title ‘Voyage Around The World’ and description of image and location in German and English; with two identically formatted cards showing the heads of the firm Gustav Boehm on one, and a full view of the Toilet Soap and Perfumery Factory Gustav Boehm, Offenbach, on the other; and with two (of three) gilt-stamped “regional category” cards (85 x 65 mm), designed to be placed at the top of each of the three compartments (the first card, for the Turkey, Egypt and Ceylon set of images, is lacking); all contents are in very good condition; it is scarce to find any of Boehm’s three series of trade cards depicting his round-the-world journey substantially complete, and in the original box.
