A substantial, landmark contribution to the study of the natural history of the island of New Guinea which, in addition to ornithology, covers lepidoptera, arachnida, coleoptera, mollusca, reptiles, fishes and botanical specimens. There are also sections on the physical anthropology of the indigenous peoples of the Torres Strait and western New Guinea.
