Octavo, contemporary royal binding of full red calf (rubbed and marked, corners worn), upper and lower boards with gilt arms of Louis XV, elaborate gilt borders, richly gilt spine in six compartments, gilt dentelles; all edges gilt, original marbled endpapers, first blank with early 19th century ownership inscription, pp [xiv], 608; with 7 full page engravings, comprising frontispiece, added t.p. and 5 half-titles; woodcut initials and numerous woodcut headpieces; first 20 or so leaves with marginal worming around head of gutter, occasional mild staining to margins, hinges a little weakened, else internally very good.

Printed by order of Louis XV (1710-1774), and in a royal binding bearing the French king’s coat of arms in gilt.
