Marcus Clarke’s epic novel of a Van Diemen’s Land convict, For the Term of His Natural Life (1874) was made into an Australian silent film with the same title in 1927. The film was directed, produced and co-written by Norman Dawn. It was the most expensive Australian silent film ever made, and aremains the most famous.
