Signed photographic portrait of the artist John Shirlow

Circa 1913. Carbon print photograph, 130 x 100 mm, laid down on board mount with imprint of Monteath, Melb., inscribed on mount ‘To R.H. Croll with sincere regards, John Shirlow. Octr. 1913‘, the carbon print in fine condition (one tiny blemish at upper left edge), the mount with some very light foxing scattered across the lower section. This studio portrait of the Melbourne etcher John Shirlow was presented by him to his close friend, the literary figure R.H. Croll, who would later contribute to two publications on the artist, Etchings (Sydney, 1917), and Etched Work of John Shirlow (Melbourne, 1920).
