MITCHELL, Thomas Livingstone, Sir (1792-1855)
Sir Thomas Mitchell, explorer and surveyor : autograph letter signed, to E.J. Bennett.
1855, 26 July. Surveyor-General’s Office, Sydney; pp, folio; in very good condition.
Official letter from the Surveyor-General of New South Wales, Sir Thomas Mitchell, to the newly appointed Assistant Surveyor-General, E.J. Bennett, regarding three circulars that have been sent to Bennett in error, and assuring him that he should not concern himself with their content; written in Mitchell’s own hand and signed by him at the foot, T.L. Mitchell. The letter was written shortly before Mitchell’s death.
“Considering the testimonials you have favored me with a perusal of, I do not imagine it probable – or indeed possible, that I could ever be under the necessity of becoming a party to the injury you would sustain by the alternative alluded to in some of these Circulars.”
