Souvenir of Australian Federation.

Souvenir handkerchief which commemorates both the proclamation by Lord Hopetoun of the Commonwealth of Australia in Centennial Park, Sydney, on 1 January 1901, as well as the opening by the Duke of Cornwall and York of the first Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia in Melbourne, on 9 May 1901; 430 x 490 mm, white linen with lithographic design in blue featuring portraits of Queen Victoria, the Duke and Duchess of York and Lord and Lady Hopetoun, with a map of Australasia (strangely, New Zealand is included!) at centre; captioned across the head of the design ‘Souvenir of Australian Federation’ and with the legend ‘Unity is Strength’ across the foot; original folds, scattered foxing, otherwise very good condition.
