The New Guinea Exploring Expedition – also known as The Bonito Expedition – was an important scientific expedition mounted under the auspices of the Geographical Society of Australasia. Between June and December 1885, in the SS Bonito under the leadership of Captain Henry Charles Everill, the expedition explored the Fly and Strickland Rivers in the Papuan Gulf region. Everill’s official report was published in 1886.
