SOLOMON & BARDWELL
Studio portrait of a wealthy lady in velvet, taffeta and lace. Ballarat or Maryborough, Victorian goldfields, 1865.
Albumen print photograph, carte de visite format, 98 x 61 mm (mount), verso imprinted ‘Solomon & Bardwell, Photographers. Ballarat & Maryborough’; a strong print with rich tones and great clarity, in good condition with a few tiny ink marks; the mount is very clean.
According to Davies & Stanbury (Mechanical Eye), Solomon & Bardwell operated a studio at Maryborough only in the year 1865 – which accords perfectly with the hairstyle and fashion worn by the wealthy female sitter.
