Manning, Chancellor, from his friend Alfred Stephen, 12 June ’82’; pp [2 blank], -94; mild scattered foxing, else internally sound and clean; a good association copy.
Includes acts of Parliament relating to the University of Sydney, acts relating to colleges within the university, deed of grant for the university, lists of university officers, and Prince Alfred Hospital Incorporation act. The State Library of New South Wales copy (the only copy recorded in Australian collections) contains an additional section at rear (pp -140) which lists university foundations, scholarships and prizes; the present copy was bound without this section.
Sir Alfred Stephen (1802-1894) held the office of Chief Justice of New South Wales from 1844 to 1873. He was a fellow of the senate of the University of Sydney, 1878-1887, and life director of the (Royal) Prince Alfred Hospital.
Sir William Montagu Manning (1811-1895) was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, judge, and Chancellor of the University of Sydney from 1878 until his death.
