Folio (42 x 30 cms), lettered wrappers (light handling marks or inky artist’s fingers, lower panel discoloured), containing four original signed etchings by Garry Shead from his Era Malley series : ‘The Poets’, ‘The Arabian Tree’; ‘We imprison our wishes’; and ‘Death of Ern’, each etching signed by Garry Shead, titled in pencil and editioned AP V.

This copy with an intimate inscription inside the wrapper inside a large hand drawn heart ‘For my darling Adrienne with all my love Garry’. under which he has inscribed:

I wanted to say so much more

To tell you how much I love you

In these etchings there is some idea

The legendary story of Ern Malley, fictitious poet from the time of the Angry Penguins, has intrigued Australian artists and writers since the 1940s. Garry Shead, one of Australia’s greatest contemporary artists, also was caught up in the tale and commenced a major series of paintings, etchings and exhibitions revolving around this theme in 2006.
