Cecily Crozier’s self-published Melbourne journal Comment ran for several years from 1940 and was dedicated to the promotion of innovative writing and design. This was the second published volume of poems by American writer Karl Shapiro, stationed in Australia as a U.S. serviceman during World War Two. At the time of publication, Crozier and Shapiro were in the midst of an affair, and the connectiing passages between the poems are in fact extracts from their love letters.
