New edition, embodying the author’s latest improvements. Thick octavo, presentation binding from Auckland College & Grammar School, New Zealand, gilt stamp on upper board, full polished calf, ruled in blind and gilt (a few old water stains), spine in compartments with gilt ornamentation and contrasting red morocco title label, lettered in gilt, marbled edges and endpapers, fine presentation inscription on preliminary blank in the year of publication from the Headmaster of Auckland College & Grammar School to J. A. Pennalligen for First Prize in French, pp. xx; 818, four chromolithographs and 343 wood engravings, scattered foxing and a few pale waterstains to the edges, a very good copy.

A handsome volume of Félix-Archimède Pouchet’s history of the natural world, first published in 1870 and printed in various editions throughout the late nineteenth century. This example with a fine presentation inscription and binding from Auckland, New Zealand.
