Sextodecimo, publisher’s cloth (worn, expertly rebacked), retaining the partial label to spine, folding frontispiece map (Chart of Sullivan’s Cove), engraved title page featuring Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos engraved by Thomas Bock, pp. xii; folding plate of the Church and Orphan’s Schools in Newtown, 296; second engraved title page, eight plates (one coloured, one folding) and two maps (one coloured), engraved by T. Bock and C. Bruce, a couple of plates loosening, fore and lower edges uncut, light toning, a very good copy.

The third of Ross’s Tasmanian almanacs, regarded as his finest, noteworthy for its illustrations, including engravings by Thomas Bock.

Ross’s third book almanac, The Van Diemen’s Land Anniversary and Hobart-Town Almanack for the year 1831, was the high-point of almanac publishing in the colony. The format and content remain largely unchanged but instead of general articles there is the first comprehensive ‘Statistical View of Van Diemen’s Land’, now an important reference point for scholars and historians’.
